In this year's report, Gartner highlights Container-VM Convergence (CVMC) as a high-benefit innovation that is gaining momentum in modern infrastructure strategies. Key insights from the report:
- Agentic AI as a Major Disruptor: The report makes a bold claim that "Agentic AI is poised to be the biggest disruptor of I&O since the introduction of the cloud and smartphones." We believe this highlights the transformative potential of AI in managing infrastructure.
- Geopolitical Tensions Fueling "Geopatriation" and Sovereign Cloud: Geopolitical risk is a major theme. The report states, "Geopatriation is rising as geopolitical tensions drive organizations to relocate workloads from one hosting environment — typically a hyperscale public cloud... to an alternative hosting environment that offers greater sovereignty."
- "Container-VM Convergence" is at the Peak of Inflated Expectations: We feel this finding validates the industry's significant interest and investment in technologies like KubeVirt that allow virtual machines and containers to be managed cohesively under a single, modern platform.
- "Sovereign Cloud" and "Distributed Hybrid Infrastructure" are also at peak hype, showing they are central to current enterprise infrastructure strategies.
